Artist Statement | Pam-ela Harrelson Throughout my art career I find myself returning to what I love doing best, faces.

From birth, we as humans are naturally programed to seek out the faces around us. Faces inform our instinctual emotional responses that we carry throughout our lives. These emotions direct who we seek out, trust, avoid, or even fall in love with.

I build upon these emotions with my artistic eye where I not only evaluate each face for measurements, check proportions, work with light and shade, but also look to delve deeper to reveal the inner spark or story that each person possess.

I translate these images, ideas, and feelings into 2-dimensional drawings, acrylic and oil paintings, and multi-media sculptural 3D paintings. In these works, I deconstruct what I see and reassemble the pieces into textural, layered facial landscapes that invite the viewer to take a closer look. I strive to not only reveal the outer beauty of my subject but also the unspoken inner beauty that makes us individual human beings.

The body of work presented in Reflection: figurative explorations bring together a diverse range of media and interpretations of the human face, inviting viewers to look beyond what they see and discover stories, meanings, and personal connections of their own.

Reflection: figurative explorations brings together a body of work that challenges viewers to move beyond the familiar, encouraging personal interpretation, emotional discovery, and meaningful connection.

The exhibition is both a celebration of individuality and an invitation to recognize the shared humanity reflected in the faces around us.
